This course imparts the knowledge to manage the development of embedded systems. Basing on the courses "software development process" and "software engineering technologies" it focuses on the specifics of embedded systems as limited resources, real-time operation, small size and development tools. The current utilization and future potential of these systems for medical appliances will be discussed.

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to

• Explain technologies to develop embedded systems (Programming language,  J2ME, real-time OS, hardware)
• Select tooling and development process
• Utilize relevant protocols and standards (blue tooth, WLAN, MIDP, security)
• Program with assistance a small application on a mobile phone
• Overview the market of existing wearable in the medical sector
• Assess the trend in medical computing and remote monitoring  with embedded devices
