We, the team at the Johner Institute, have a clear vision: We want to create, share, and apply knowledge to ensure that safe, effective, relevant, and affordable medical devices are available to the healthcare system. In short:
Leveraging science and technology for a better life – for everyone.
We are filling a gap in the scientific spectrum: Germany lacks the kind of “regulatory science” for medical devices that the USA has, for example, with the Harvard MIT Center for Regulatory Science.
That is why we are building up this field of knowledge and have hired researchers to answer important questions such as:
To answer these questions, we create evidence, develop prototypes, and write guidelines, for example, on IT security and artificial intelligence.
We are also involved in standardization committees and the WHO.
We share this regulatory knowledge in various ways, including seminars, courses, and workshops and our e-learning platforms.
Our consultants are also available to answer any questions you may have – even small questions free of charge via our micro-consulting service.
At the Medical Device Days in Germany, we also share knowledge in various speed consulting sessions and invite manufacturers and others to network in the medical device ecosystem.
We apply our knowledge to support medical device and IVD manufacturers and other actors in the medical technology industry in their activities in the following areas, among others:
Our mission includes livable workplaces for us, the Johner Institute team: Workplaces that offer us space to grow, learn, and create, workplaces that are safe, and where compatibility with our families is not an empty catchphrase.
To achieve this, we ensure that all our work is meaningful, that we live by our values daily, and that we do not pursue economic success as our top priority. We organize ourselves according to the rules of holacracy and design the spaces in which we work with care and awareness.
These jobs are held by people predestined for them because of their passion, competence, empathy, and integrity. Our basic principle is that we don't just look for people for jobs but create jobs for people.
Our five values define us, are important to us, and reflect how we want to be and how we want to be seen.
We do everything we can to ensure that our customers achieve their objectives.
We see ourselves as caretakers who genuinely help and solve problems sustainably. We can afford the luxury of not having to maximize our revenues, for example, by making ourselves “at home” in a company as consultants. Instead, we work in a surgically precise, fast, and structured manner. We are there for our customers.
We act with integrity. We trust each other. We can be trusted.
Honesty, integrity, and transparency are the key for good cooperation. We never work with tricks and will never work with tricksters. For us, win-win is not just a buzzword but a prerequisite for any (good) cooperation. We can trust each other unquestioningly, and so can our customers. We keep our promises, whatever it takes.
We organize ourselves in a holacratic way.
We are intolerant of hierarchical structures with dictatorial superiors. Our holacratic organization allows individuals a maximum degree of freedom, along with an equally large degree of responsibility.
We value people as a whole.
We believe that proactive communication and respectful interaction are essential in this regard. We embrace diversity and tolerance of opinions and ways of life.
We strive for excellence.
We need smart and committed people on our team to achieve our objectives and fulfill our mission. We not only want to be the best in our field but also to train future talent. Our aim is excellence. That is why we focus on our competencies, are thought leaders, and actively help shape regulations rather than just going along with them.
